New castle - was built in 1734-1751 in the Rococo style by the architect K. Poppelmann. The Castle was built for holding of Rzeczpospolita general Seyms. Side buildings formed a main yard with two wings. In the right wing, the guards were located, in the left one there was a bakery. There were Ambassadorial, Senatorial and Oval Halls in it. In 1793, the so-called «dumb» Seym was held there, at which the second division of Rzeczpospolita was adopted. In the autumn of 1794, T. Kostyushko came here to meet the leaders of the rebel troops of the Grand Lithuanian Duchy. In 1795, in the New Castle, the King Stanislav August Ponyatovsky signed his demise and stayed living here till 1797. During World War II, the castle was destroyed. In 1952, it was restored but in the Classical style by the architect Varaksin. Only entrance gate and the sculptures of sphinxes have their original view (the second half of the 18th century).
